Frequently asked

Does Simmer require an account?

No. Open the app and start cooking. There is no signup, no login, and no email collection.

Where do my recipes live?

Locally on your device. Nothing is sent to Ink & Iron Apps servers. AI calls, when used, go directly from your device to the AI provider you chose with your own API key.

Which AI providers does Simmer support?

OpenAI (GPT-4o and later models), Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude. You bring your own API key — your key, your data, your cost.

What does AI cost in Simmer?

Whatever your chosen provider charges. Simmer takes no markup and never proxies your calls. Most recipe imports use under a cent of tokens.

Can Simmer import a recipe from a URL?

Yes. Simmer first tries structured-data extraction (Recipe schema.org markup that most modern recipe sites publish). For sites that don’t have clean structured data, AI fallback handles the parse.

Can I import from a photo or handwritten note?

Yes — AI vision extracts ingredients, steps, and timing from photos of recipe cards, handwritten notes, or cookbook pages.

Does Simmer build shopping lists?

Yes. Add any recipe to your shopping list in one tap; Simmer merges duplicate ingredients automatically so “2 cups flour” doesn’t appear five times. Check items off as you shop.

Does Simmer work offline?

Your recipes, edits, and shopping list all work offline. URL imports and AI features need internet — once a recipe is saved, it’s available without a connection.

Is Simmer available on iOS?

Android only for the alpha. Simmer is built on Flutter so iOS is achievable later if there’s demand.

How do I sign up to test Simmer?

Request access through the contact form. Include your device, Android version, and which AI provider you’d like to test with.
